In 2017, Saumya ranked 9th in the UPSC exam on her first try. Many people try for years, but Saumya did it in just four months of preparation. Saumya, from Delhi, lost her hearing at 16, but she didn’t let it stop her. She used a hearing aid and took the UPSC exam at 23 without any coaching. Saumya completed her law degree from National Law University, Delhi, and decided to prepare for UPSC in 2017.
During the UPSC Mains exam, Saumya had a high fever and couldn’t even revise the General Studies paper. But she didn’t give up and finished the exam. Saumya chose to be in the general category instead of the disabled category, showing she believes in merit. Her parents are doctors, and though she initially wanted to be like them, she chose law and excelled in school.
Currently working in the Maharashtra Cadre, Saumya has a strong social media presence with over 2.4 lakh followers on Instagram, more than 19,000 on Twitter, and over 16,000 on Facebook.
